STILL NOT AWAKE FOR
00d 00h 00m 00s

The sun came up at 6:14. I know that because I saw it happen. I looked straight at it from the fence rail, thought about the whole situation, and decided the morning could hold on for five more minutes.

Five minutes is a flexible number. By the time I got out there the field was already awake, the farmer had already eaten, and two other birds had covered my shift without being asked. I crowed anyway. Loud. Like I had carried the entire sunrise over there myself.

Nobody corrected me. That is the part I keep coming back to. If you crow with enough confidence at 11:52, everyone just assumes the sun is the one running late.
